Suatu [[larutan berair]] dari [[rodium klorida]], [[asam kloroplatinat]], dan [[natrium nitrat]] diuapkan dan kemudian [[Pencairan|dilebur]] dalam cawan porselen antara 460-480°C sampai pengoksidaan [[nitrogen]] berhenti (≈10 menit). Massa padat yang dihasilkan kemudian dicuci dengan [[air suling]] dan natrium nitrat encer diikuti dengan pengeringan dengan [[kalsium klorida]] untuk menghasilkan katalis ini.
