Isotop lutesium

Lutesium (71Lu) yang terbentuk secara alami terdiri dari satu isotop stabil, 175Lu (97,41% kelimpahan alami), dan satu radioisotop berumur panjang, 176Lu dengan waktu paruh 3,78 tahun (2,59% kelimpahan alami). Tiga puluh lima radioisotop telah dikarakterisasi, dengan yang paling stabil, selain 176Lu, adalah 174Lu dengan waktu paruh 3,31 tahun, dan 173Lu dengan waktu paruh 1,37 tahun. Semua isotop radioaktif yang tersisa memiliki waktu paruh kurang dari 9 hari, dan sebagian besar memiliki waktu paruh kurang dari setengah jam. Unsur ini juga memiliki 18 keadaan meta, dengan yang paling stabil adalah 177mLu (t1/2 160,4 hari), 174mLu (t1/2 142 hari) dan 178mLu (t1/2 23,1 menit).

Isotop lutesium memiliki berat atom berkisar mulai dari 149,973 u (150Lu) hingga 183,961 u (184Lu). Mode peluruhan utama sebelum isotop stabil yang paling melimpah, 175Lu, adalah penangkapan elektron (dengan beberapa emisi alfa dan positron), dan mode utama sesudahnya adalah peluruhan beta. Produk peluruhan utama sebelum 175Lu adalah isotop iterbium, dan produk utama sesudahnya adalah isotop hafnium. Semua isotop lutesium bersifat radioaktif atau, dalam kasus 175Lu, stabil secara pengamatan, artinya 175Lu diprediksi bersifat radioaktif tetapi tidak ada peluruhan aktual yang teramati.

Lutesium-177

Lutesium (177Lu) klorida, yang dijual dengan merek Lumark di antara yang lain, digunakan untuk pelabelan radioaktif obat-obatan lain, baik sebagai terapi anti-kanker atau untuk skintigrafi (pencitraan radio medis). Efek sampingnya yang paling umum adalah anemia (jumlah sel darah merah rendah), trombositopenia (jumlah trombosit darah rendah), leukopenia (jumlah sel darah putih rendah), limfopenia (tingkat limfosit rendah, sebuah jenis sel darah putih tertentu), mual, muntah, dan kerontokan rambut ringan dan sementara.[5][6]
